Roger Federer mastered the high winds and his opponent Robin Soderling to breeze into his seventh US Open semi-final in a row.

Federer, looking to regain the title he lost to Juan Martin del Potro in last year's final, handled the conditions better and cruised to a facile 6-4 6-4 7-5 win.

"It's not easy, you know. It's cold, everywhere it's blowing. You feel like it's blowing through your ears and into your eyes," The Guardian quoted Federer, as saying.

"I used to dislike it so much (but) I'm on the other side now. I was able to turn it around and kind of take enjoyment out of playing in the wind," he added.

Federer will next face third seed Novak Djokovic on Saturday.

The five-time US Open champion said that despite his head-to-head 10-5 record against Djokovic, he would be a tough opponent.

"He's been playing great after a hiccup in the first round, he's a great player," Federer said. (ANI)
